'Real Food in Cloughjordan'
This is education in a dynamic, fun environment - short of a food fight, this is the most fun that students can have during a school day
Cloughjordan House Cookery School is committed to getting Irish students cooking ( hey, it gives us parents a break!)
Uniquely located beside Ireland's first Ecovillage, we offer practical courses ( yes, you get your hands dirty!) on cooking and the environment. The emphasis is on creating an experience which is educational, which can be tailored to cover your school work!
What the students get out of the experience
Cloughjordan House understands that transition year is not all serious business but we try to make our learning outcomes as close to what would be covered in the classroom as possible
- Understanding a working farm
- Understanding the food cycle and ecosystem, emphasising the importance of seasonality and local foods
- Structured hands-on cookery class using freshly picked vegetables
Unique to Ireland, Cloughjordan Community Farm uses biodynamic production methods which work in harmony with the environment. Agri-science students and science students, in particular, will find this alternative approach very interesting.
Cloughjordan Ecovillage is also a lesson in itself, with 114 low energy houses, a solar and wood powered district heating system and following permeaculture design principles, for more information http://www.thevillage.ie/
